Robin L. Cyr has been named Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and Director of the Office of Sponsored Research at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill effective January 1, 2012.
Cyr has 14 years of experience in research administration and is currently Director of Training and Policy in the Department of Research Management at Partner’s HealthCare Systems, Inc. in Boston. Partner’s HealthCare Systems includes five hospitals associated with Harvard Medical School, including Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
“We are delighted to have Robin Cyr join us at UNC-Chapel Hill,” said Vice Chancellor for Research Barbara Entwisle. “Her background and experience and her approach to collaboration and customer service will be a perfect fit at Carolina.”
A graduate of Virginia Intermont College with dual majors in psychology and sociology, Cyr began her career in the field of social services at The Special Children’s Center in Dryden, N.Y. where she rose to the position of Director of the Adolescent Intermediate Care Facility.
Cyr began her work in research administration as a Senior Grant and Contract Officer and Associate Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs at Cornell University in 1997. In 2004, she became a Grant and Contract Officer and later Director of Grants and Contracts at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She assumed her current position with Partner’s HealthCare Systems in 2008.
“It is an honor to join the research enterprise at such a prestigious institution,” Cyr said about her new position. ”I am really looking forward to rolling up my sleeves and working next to the best and brightest faculty, staff and students at Carolina.”
The Office of Sponsored Research provides comprehensive central research administration to the entire UNC-Chapel Hill campus, and sponsored research is the university’s largest single source of revenue. Last fiscal year, UNC-Chapel Hill received nearly $800 million in new awards.
